The Super Awesome Book Club is Here!

It’s time to get this party started! And by “party” I mean Book Club.

For some time now I’ve wanted to figure out where I can find book recommendations that were like the kinds of books I create. And the books I create are specifically made for me!

If that sounds selfish, let me explain.

Growing up I always thought I hated reading, despite being a very good reader (if I do say so myself). The problem wasn’t that I hated reading, it was that I couldn’t find the books that interested me enough to pick them up and read.

But with illustrations always caught my attention though. Shel Silverstein’s “Where The Sidewalk Ends” was a huge favorite of mine. But other than the required reading you’re given to do in school, I just wasn’t about that life.

That doesn’t mean I wasn’t reading though. I was reading comic strips. And comic books! Garfield, Peanuts, and Calvin and Hobbes were my go to comic strips. Spider-Man and Batman were my go-to comic books.

This went on for a while, until I finally found books that I thought were awesome. Which in turn sparked my desire to find other books like what I was reading.

Why am I telling you all this? Because as a reluctant reader I know how hard it was to find books that I would like. Wether it was because the text was all bunched together making my eyes glaze over too many words!) or it was a book about the true life of someone (I didn’t want a biography, I wanted action!) or it was a book with a girl hero ( we can argue sexism all day long if you want, but boys want to read about other boys doing cool boy stuff!).

So those are the kinds of stories I’m writing and drawing! But like I said at the begining of this post, I’ve been searching for other book recommendations for someone like me, who was a reluctant reader growing up. I’ve found a few lists here and there, but many of the books are older, and I’m always on the look out for new releases as well.

Instead of continuing to scan the the interweb, searching for what I wanted, I decided to just create my own space. My own club for book recommendations for boys (and other reluctant readers). The Super Awesome Book Club!

So if you’re a parent, grandparents, guardian, teacher, library, or anyone else out there looking for books for the reluctant reader in your life, be sure to subscribe and get book recommendations delivered straight to inbox every other week!
